About this show:
Mandee Weinberg is a 42 year old Jersey girl. She is an RN on the night shift — itself heroic! — on the M5 Cardiac Telemetry Unit at Baystate Medical Center. She is also a hockey-watchin’, softball-coachin’, Girl Scout-participatin’ mom of two daughters. She is now contending with Stage IV breast cancer.
Kelly Durand is a 34 year old firecracker who has worked for Baystate practically since she was born. In fact, she probably was born at a nurse’s station, since her mom works for Baystate as well. Kelly has a lot on her plate; her husband is a disabled Chicopee firefighter and they have a young son who carries the diagnosis of autism. And they just bought a house! But Kelly is tough. When she cut her long hair short in preparation for chemotherapy and we complimented her on the look, she said with a wink, “You have to say that. I have cancer.”
Once upon a time in nursing culture, there was an idea that nurses “eat our young,” that we don’t nurture new nurses or care for each other. We’re here to tell you that is not even in the same ballpark with truth. Watch two nurses who don’t know each other at a party bond instantly. We care for you and your loved ones on holidays, weekends, night shifts, during blizzards, when you’re sick and scared and lonely.
Please help us care for two of our own.
